Terms

These terms are an agreement between you and EasifyStudios ("we", "us") covering your use of the Bodyguard: ID Scanner Pro app ("the app") and of this website.

By downloading or using the app you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

This agreement is with us, not Apple

This agreement is concluded between you and EasifyStudios only, and not with Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content.

Licence

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on any Apple-branded device that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not sell, redistribute, rent, sub-licence, reverse-engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except where that restriction is prohibited by law.

Who may use it

The app is a tool for staff at licensed premises and other businesses with a duty to check age or to refuse entry. You must be at least 18 and must have authority from the venue you are using it for.

What the app does, and what it does not do

The app reads the barcode on the back of a driver's licence, or the machine-readable zone on a passport or identity card, and compares the encoded date of birth against a minimum age you set. It can flag a document so that the same document is recognised on a later scan.

Please read the following carefully, because it defines the limits of what the app can do for you.

It does not detect forged or altered documents. The app performs several consistency checks on the data encoded in a barcode and will refuse a document whose encoded data contradicts itself. It cannot detect a well-made forgery, a document that has been re-encoded to match its printed face, or a genuine document presented by somebody other than its holder. It does not inspect holograms, laminates, ultraviolet features or any other physical security feature.

It cannot read every document. Driving licences issued in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, among others, carry no barcode, no chip and no machine-readable zone, and cannot be read by any software. Support for any particular document may change between versions.

It reads what is encoded, not what is true. The app reports the date of birth recorded in the document. It cannot know whether that date is correct.

It is not legal advice and it does not discharge your obligations. The decision to admit or refuse any person remains yours. You remain responsible for complying with the licensing laws, age-verification duties, record-keeping rules and data protection obligations that apply to your premises. A verdict shown by the app is information to help your staff decide; it is not a defence, a certification, or a substitute for your own judgement and training.

Your responsibilities for the data you record

You decide what the app records. If you switch on the storage of identity details, you become responsible under applicable data protection law for the personal data you hold about the people you scan, including having a lawful basis for it, telling those people what you record, keeping it no longer than necessary, and answering their requests.

We never receive that data and cannot access it. See our Privacy Policy.

You are also responsible for keeping the device secure, and for exports you choose to make out of the app.

Availability and changes

The app is currently provided free of charge. We may in future release versions that include paid features. We may change, suspend or discontinue the app or any of its features at any time.

No warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will read any particular document.

Nothing in these terms excludes any warranty or right that cannot be excluded under the law that applies to you.

In the event of any failure of the app to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app to you if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, nor for lost profits, lost revenue, fines, penalties, licence suspension or damage to reputation, arising out of your use of the app or this website.

Our total liability arising out of or relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim, or ten United States dollars, whichever is greater.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Maintenance and support

We are solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for the app. Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support services. Support requests may be sent to [email protected].

Claims

We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim by you or a third party relating to the app or your possession and use of it, including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.

We, not Apple, are responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of any third-party claim that the app or your use of it infringes that third party's intellectual property rights.

Legal compliance

You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a United States Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any United States Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Third-party terms

You must comply with any applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the app, including the App Store Terms of Service.

Apple as third-party beneficiary

Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and upon your acceptance of them Apple will have the right — and is deemed to have accepted the right — to enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

This website

The website exists to describe the app and to let you join a list for release news. Nothing on it is an offer to sell, and no feature described is guaranteed to exist in any particular version of the app.

Articles are not legal advice. Writing on this site discusses age verification, identity documents and licensing compliance. It is researched carefully and written to be useful, but it is general information, and requirements differ substantially between states and countries. Confirm your obligations with your own licensing authority or a lawyer, and do not rely on anything here as a defence.

No verification method detects everything. Neither human inspection nor any scanning product catches every fraudulent or misused identity document. Material on this site describing what a scanner catches also describes what it does not. Responsibility for who you admit and serve remains with you and your staff.

The list. Joining costs nothing and commits you to nothing. It does not entitle you to the app or to a release on any particular date — when the app appears on the App Store is Apple's decision rather than ours. You can leave the list at any time.

Content. Text and design on this site belong to us. You are welcome to quote from articles with attribution and a link. Do not republish them wholesale.

Termination

These terms apply until terminated by you or by us. Your rights end automatically if you breach them. You may end them at any time by deleting the app.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The effective date above will change when we do, and continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. This does not deprive you of any protection given by the mandatory law of the country in which you live.
